GlobalQuest is a not-for-profit educational organization offering 12-week semester programs for high school seniors and recent graduates taking a gap year or semester between high school and college. On GlobalQuest Thailand and Ecuador/Galápagos, students study language, history, culture, and the environment through academic classes and hands-on experiences that include field work and wilderness excursions, homestay, internships, and service work. Nomadic in nature, our programs provide the opportunity for students to live in and explore each of the primary regions of the host country in order to better understand the country as a whole.

An Invitation
If you are heading into your senior year or just graduating from high school, or have even tested a year of college life, you are in a unique situation that many older and younger people envy. You have finished your required course of study. You have four years of college ahead of you and greater freedom and opportunity than ever before to pursue your interests and your dreams. Once you have been admitted to college, your responsibilities are few until you get there. It is a rare and wonderful time in your life — a time not to be wasted.Unfortunately, many high school students find that the spring semester of their senior year is a bit of a letdown. They often feel they are treading water rather than moving forward. Many feel restless, as if they have “outgrown” their school.Still others plunge into the first semester of college and suddenly discover they don’t know why they are there or what they want to do. They felt so much pressure to get into college that they didn’t have time enough to think about why they should go.There is no better time to coalesce what you have learned in school and prepare yourself for the great adventures of college and beyond. I invite you to take the leap with us.- Tim Ellis, GlobalQuest FounderThai Monk

The Host Countries
Thailand and Ecuador are countries ripe with fascinating traditions, ancient history, and exotic sights, sounds, and tastes. Traditional culture continues to thrive amidst modernization and the patterns of globalization. This dichotomy produces tensions and opportunities that serve as the core curriculum of GlobalQuest. Our academic study of the cultural, social, environmental and economic forces at play come alive through our daily experiences and interactions in communities around the country. We also build a community of our own — a learning community founded on trust, honesty, mutual support, a sense of responsibility and fun, and a shared commitment to opening our minds and hearts to these foreign lands. Our classrooms include temples, bustling markets, national parks throughout the host country, the homes of native families, schools, and magnificent, ancient ruins. GlobalQuest will give you a new perspective on your world, your studies, and yourself. You’ll be thrilled to discover that education can be so tangible and engaging. We look forward to helping you make this opportunity a reality!
